Quilt and Craft Club

In the WRCC Quilt and Craft Club, women and men from Rhea and Bledsoe counties meet twice a month to promote and educate the love of quilting and other crafts. We also have lots of food, fellowship and fun. Our business meeting is on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:00 a.m. EST. We share projects we’ve completed, demonstrate block of the month, ask and lend advice on projects underway and coordinate charitable projects. We are not all work and no play, we also have fun!  We participate in the Scopes Trial Festival and the WRCC Fall Festival. We have holiday parties, games and contests. We go to quilt shows and fabric stores all around our area.

Our 2017 Raffle quilt is a strawberry quilt, which was made as a shared project of all the members. The tickets are $1 donation or a $5 donation for 6 tickets. The winning ticket will be selected at the Fall Festival.

Charity projects are the heart of our club.  We are currently working on lap blankets and walker bags for local nursing homes. We enjoy all forms of quilting, sewing, and crochet.

We have just completed our pillowcase challenge. We completed over 200 pillowcases for the pediatric unit of a local hospital.

In 2016, the club recently honored local veterans at our Military Banquet. Each hero was given a patriotic quilt. This was such a great  success that we will be having an annual ceremony. The making of the military quilts is now an ongoing project. Some of the quilts are made by individuals and some are made using the combined talents of many members. We look forward to our next ceremony in the fall of 2017.

Past charitable projects include “fidget blankets” for people with special needs, lap quilts and teddy bears that were donated to Ronald McDonald House, a quilt donated to the Kiuka Fire Department and other quilts that were made and donated to individuals.

On the third Wednesday of each month, we have a “Sew Social” at 11:00 a.m. EST, with everyone working on whatever they wish. We also enjoy just sitting, chatting, and catching up. Come by and join us! All levels of skill are welcome, from I’ve-never-even-seen-a-sewing-machine beginners to seasoned professionals. You need not be a quilter or a crafter – join us and find your own passion!
